The celebration aims to enrich visitors' appreciation of local culture while supporting tourism and local businesses. Throughout the two-month period, shoppers can look forward to performances showcasing Malaysia's multicultural heritage, festive decorations across the mall, and special promotions from participating retailers. Empire City: Merdeka & Malaysia Day Bazaar at Hextar World
Over at Damansara Perdana, Hextar World at Empire City is hosting a patriotic-themed Merdeka & Malaysia Day Bazaar running from 1 August to 30 September 2026. The bazaar features a curated lineup of local brands, crafts and street food, celebrating the best of Malaysian entrepreneurship and cuisine.
The programme also includes cultural dances, music showcases, exhibitions on Malaysian heritage, and flag-themed decorations throughout the destination. Hextar World, which soft-launched on 29 November 2025, is a 1.8 million square foot lifestyle destination known as “The Pulse of Damansara.” Its High Street enclosed lifestyle promenade provides a vibrant backdrop for the bazaar, with cultural performances and roving entertainers bringing the space to life.
Under the vision of Hextar Group CEO Dato Eddie Ong, Hextar World aims to be a destination “where culture, creativity and community can grow together,” making it a fitting venue for Merdeka celebrations that highlight Malaysian heritage and local talent.
13th MY Classic Cars Merdeka Charity Drive
One of the most heartwarming Merdeka traditions in Petaling Jaya returns on 31 August 2026 with the 13th MY Classic Cars Merdeka Charity Drive. This year, the event is hosting 120 children from eight organisations, including special needs children and orphans from various backgrounds, giving them a memorable Merdeka Day experience riding in classic cars.
The day begins at 8:00am at CARFE (No. 1067, Jalan Jenjarum, Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya), where breakfast is served for all participants. At 10:00am, the convoy departs for Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS) in Kelana Jaya, where the event continues with activities followed by lunch for all attendees. The event runs until 2:30pm.
Classic car owners are invited to lend their time and vehicles for this worthy cause, with the organisers also welcoming contributions and sponsorships for meals and goody bags.
